‘Tithiri se aasman thama jayega?’ / ‘Can the dim-wit support the heavens?’ questions one’s position and participation in destroying natural ecologies.
The title refers to a popular idiom in Northern India describing those undertaking tasks beyond their strength or ability. It originates from a myth about the Red-wattled Lapwing sleeping on its back with its legs towards the sky, hence attempting to support the heavens.
By traversing deserted landscapes across NRW in Germany and Goa in India, the artist is constantly challenged to reflect on his understanding of land, resource and consumption. The result is a poetic assemblage combining moving images, text and sound to excavate death and life from below the surface. It is an intimate interaction between our industrial past and post-industrial future.
